Restricted Site Access: Breakdown
Restricted Site Access is easy to use and requires no technical knowledge. All a user needs to do is install the plugin, navigate to the ‘Restricted Site Access’ tab in the WordPress dashboard and enable the plugin. Once enabled, the user will be prompted to designate which IP or IP ranges are allowed to access the site. They can also specify which header information they want to be sent to the visitor. This can be useful for blocking out search engine crawlers, which are often used to collect data to improve search results.
Once an IP or IP range is blocked from accessing the website, any attempts to access the site will be redirected to a custom URL or the home page. In addition, the plugin has the ability to lock out users who make too many failed attempts to access the site in a short time span. Administrators can also whitelist certain URLs, allowing access to specific pages even when access is locked out.
Restricted Site Access also includes an extensive set of features for site owners and administrators. For example, administrators can set up a password protected area within the website, as well as set access restrictions for specific types of users. The plugin also features extensive logging capabilities which can be used to track unsuccessful attempts to access the website, as well as monitor other security concerns.
